Prima Dance Festivals

Prima festivals are very traditional with the categories that are offered and cater for those who are beginners through to competent comp dancers. Most festivals include the following:

Novice Cabaret & Classical split into junior, inter, senior.

Baby Cabaret & Classical

Open ballet, tap, modern, character and song and dance, age catagories A – F

Lyrical, acro, national, own choreography – open to both open and novice dancers.

Duets and Trios, covering with and without song and classical.

Troupes, split into junior, inter, senior.

Classical & Cabaret Challenges, for the highest standard of dancers.

HOW IT WORKS

Full school entries are preferred and given priority, however independents are also accepted. Teachers must bring their own equipment to play their students music and a speaker with connections is available for independent entries. However please do not assume that music will be played for you, unless agreed in advance. Always happy to help where possible though.

Our festivals are well organised and get rave reviews! We want everyone to enjoy the event, whether you are dancing or watching. Take a look at our event calendar and choose which dates suit you and then click below to request your syllabus/entry pack.

FAQ

Here you will find our most frequently asked questions. If you need any further help, please contact us.

Do I need a Prima Passport for a festival?

No, these are only required for championships

How do I enter?

Request a syllabus for the festival you are interested in. A syllabus will be emailed to you where you can then complete your entries and return. Payment details for bank transfer of fees will be supplied, along with a bill.

How much is it to watch?

Between £8-10 per day per person. The cost of the venue determines the spectator entry fee, however usually it is £8. Cash only, so please bring correct change. There are no concessions.

To ensure costs are kept low for entrants and the viability of events:
Each participating dancer must have their own full paying parent/guardian present, i.e. 1 adult per 1 participant* Not including siblings, 1 parent can be present with participating siblings.
Teachers/parents must not bring groups of dancers on behalf of absent parents without prior written agreement.
If a paying parent/guardian is unable to attend, then the dancer can still attend with another adult, however a payment would need to be made.
Individual circumstances maybe accommodated, but this must be emailed and agreed in advance.
When will the schedule be available?

The schedule can only be created once all entries are in and it will be sent out once fees have been paid. We are very keen to have it done as early as possible so please help us by sending in your entries and paying fees promptly.

What dressing room facilities are there?

Every venue offers something different, but there will always be a space suitable to need. For boys dressing room and for dads and daughters please ask a member of staff to be directed to an appropriate space.

Where can I park?

This changes for each venue, however we ask you to only park in a designated space, keeping disabled spaces for those that need them. Please do not use grassy areas as it damages the venues property.

Where can I put props?

Props should only be back stage just before the section starts and should be removed afterwards.

Can my child re dance if they forget or something goes wrong?

Festivals are about learning and enjoyment and we promote for the dancer to make sure they leave the stage feeling happy with their performance. Sometimes things go wrong or there’s an off day!!

How much is it to enter?

£4.50 per solo
£3.50 per duet dancer
£3 per trio dancer
£2.50 per troupe dancer

When do I enter?

As soon as possible. Prima events are very popular and once they have met capacity the entries will close.

Who pays to watch?

Anyone wishing to watch must have a wristband. Teachers get 2 wristbands free per school and children 5 and under are free. Whether you are watching just one dance or staying all day the full spectator fee must be paid.

Can I photograph/video my child or others?

Due to child protection and safe guarding photographing and filming cannot be allowed at any time. We do always try to have a professional photographer at every event to capture those precious memories.

Do you sell printed programmes?

We find these very wasteful, however there will be programmes stuck on walls/doors around the venue.

When should my child report backstage?

15 minutes before their section begins. Do keep an eye on the stage progress in case it isn’t on schedule.

Will someone be able to put my child’s props on stage?

Yes. Please see a member of staff.

Will there be some food sold on site?

Yes we always aim to make sure there is a caterer to keep you fuelled throughout the day. Let there be cake!!
